This class meets Saturday, September 12 and Saturday, September 19 - 10am-5pm in HN 544.

Full Course Description:

Non-professional actors have delivered some of cinema’s most resonant performances — in neo-realist classics such as Bicycle Thieves and contemporary works like Ken Loach’s searing Ladybird, Ladybird.  This two day workshop will give students the essential tools needed to cast non-professional actors and work with them to discover their innate expressive capabilities. Beginning with a brief history from the archives, the workshop will explore a range of creative challenges from audition through improvisation and performance, and will include a discussion about the overlapping worlds of fiction and documentary film, as well as the ethical considerations of working with non-professionals.
