Walis Johnson is a Brooklyn-based artist/researcher whose work documents the experience and poetics of the urban landscape through oral history, documentary video, and artist walking practices. Her Red Line Archive Project has been presented nationally and internationally. She is the recipient of a 2023 NYSCA Artist Grant for her community project Inheritance/Shack, a 2017 Culture Push Fellow for Utopian Practice and is a resident artist of Walking Lab. Walis holds a BA in history from Williams College and MFA from Hunter College in Interactive Media and Advanced Documentary film, has taught at Parsons School of Design.
