Reiko Tahara is an Issei immigrant. She teaches, programs, translates, organizes, and grows vegetables. Her experimental documentary works have been exhibited at SXSW, Hawaii International FF, Margaret Mead, NY Asian American FF, Walker Art Center, Pacific Film Archive, and other venues. She has received grants from the NEA, NYSCA, Jerome Foundation, and Center for Asian American Media, among others, as well as fellowships from the Japanese government, Andrew W. Mellon Transformative Learning in the Humanities at CUNY, Yamagata International Film Festival (2023, writing fellow), and the Falherty Seminar (2025, curatorial fellow). She is the co-founder and programmer of Uno Port Art Films (est. 2010), a DIY film festival in Okayama, Japan. She holds degrees from Waseda University (Tokyo) and The New School (NYC), and was mentored by Prof. Deirdre Boyle and filmmakers Rea Tajiri and Alan Berliner.
