IMA community is included in the DOC NYC film festival 2023 which starts on November 8 and runs until 26th.
IMA alum Fernanda Faya is having the International Premiere of her new film, Neirud at DOC NYC, on Saturday, November 11th 8:30 PM at Village East by Angelika with a Q&A after the screening. The online dates are Nov 12-Nov 26th

About the film: “Growing up, filmmaker Fernanda Roth Faya knew Neirud as her “aunt,” a family member close to her grandmother. What Faya uncovers after Neirud’s death is a mysterious and colorful life, from her time as a wrestler and circus performer to her secret and complicated love triangle. “A group of high school students from New York City’s South Bronx fight for equal access to sports. They organize, build momentum and win. They then decide to take on the entire school system, demanding their constitutional right to an anti-racist education. While white politicians discuss what should be taught in schools and what books should be banned, FAIR PLAY shows what students themselves have to say about their educational experience, what and how they want to be taught and the opportunities they are entitled to.
