IMA alum is recipient of Jerome Foundation Fellowship and Artist Residency at New York Live Arts

IMA alum MX Oops is a recipient of a 2023-25 Jerome Foundation Jerome Hill Artist Fellowship for Dance. MX is developing a project called, UnFiNiShEd aNiMaL with support from a creative residency at New York Live Arts. On Saturday, Jan 14th, MX performed a work-in-progress of the project to a sold out show at NY Live Arts on West 19th Street.”UnFiNiShEd aNiMaL is a party and multimedia performance that uses the vibrant aesthetics of queer nightlife culture to reveal how cognitive bias connects us all. This piece tells the story of humanity coming to grips with our collective inheritance, a ramshackle meshwork of cognitive processes evolved to survive, not for self-awareness. An interdisciplinary approach invites the audience to meditate on what might be unfinished about human cognition and how these biases keep us from building a better world together.” The Jerome Hill Foundation awards $50,000 over two years ($25,000 per year) in direct support to artists to create new work, advance artistic goals and/or promote professional development. “Its unique combination of supporting the creation of new work, artistic development and professional development through individually tailored multi-year grants offers artists important support in ways that are flexible, significant and responsive.”
