IMA alum Jess Shane is included in the first issue of Sound Fields, an online publication and event series dedicated to the art of audio documentary.
And Jess’s thesis, an audio narrative called Shocking, Heartbreaking, Transformative is being distributed on Radiotopia!
Shocking, Heartbreaking, Transformative started as Jess’s IMA thesis and it is a four part series about what really happens when stories about people’s lives are collected, edited, and consumed. It gets into the nuts and bolts of documentary storytelling, the power dynamics between makers and subjects, and rewriting unwritten rules of the documentary and non-fiction content industry.

“Sound Fields is a new publication and event series dedicated to the art of audio documentary in theory and practice. We are a group of audio documentary-makers interested in building community, defying convention and homogeneity, and in asserting for ourselves the ethical concerns, creative inheritances and common goals that fuel our wildest dreams for the future of our field.”
There is a launch party for Sound Fields at UnionDocs on February 15th, 7:30pm
