Congrats to Spring 2022 graduates, Melissa Z Montero Padilla and Jacqueline Nann Wade who are recipients of the 2022 NYWIFT (New York Women in Film and Television) scholarship award for their thesis work.
Melissa’s thesis, Memorias de Mi Famila is about the filmmaker’s search for the meaning of home through her family’s stories of migrations between Puerto Rico and the US. The film also screened at the 12th annual International Puerto Rican Heritage Film Festival on November 10th.
Jacqueline’s thesis, Norm and the People is a hybrid documentary where a puppet that represents Frantz Fanon explores the complex legacy of white minister Reverend Norm Eddy through his community activism with the residents of New York’s Spanish Harlem dating back to the 1940’s.
Scenes from Norm and the People as well as her short film, Osage were shared at the 2022 Puppet Homecoming Festival in Coney island last month.
