The MFA Program in Integrated Media Arts (IMA) offers advanced studies in nonfiction media making. The IMA Program educates multi-disciplinary, socially engaged media makers in a diverse range of skills across the media landscape. Congrats to IMA alumni and collaborators Laura Grace Chipley and Samara Smith who are among 18 other ecology focused artists selected to be LMCC’s 2025 Arts Center Residents at Governors Island https://lmcc.net/welcoming-the-2025-arts-center-residency-cohort/ @lmcc_nyc “LMCC’s 2025 Arts Center Residency offers NYC-based multidisciplinary artists a long-term space for experimentation, development, and dialogue with fellow residents. Based on Governors Island, the residency supports artists whose practices explore climate justice, the environment, sustainability, and urban ecology.” Image from a works-in-progress immersive VR and interactive web project that Chipley and Smith are creating called, Virtual Aquapolis which is supported by an NEH Digital Designs for the Public grant: “Virtual Aquapolis is an immersive virtual reality (VR) and interactive web experience that invites visitors to explore the past, present and future of New York Harbor from beneath the surface of the water. Virtual Aquapolis will examine the Harbor as a dynamic ecological and cultural crossroads transformed by human beliefs, knowledge and values, and as a hydrological commons, shaped by inequality and exclusion. At this time (6pm) last Sunday we were at the shimmery ✨ Starr Bar in Brooklyn screening the projects made over the intensive weekend. The 2nd annual IMA 48 Hour Project 🌼🌹🌸🌿was a collaborative experience. This time we opened it up beyond the IMA community to grads + alums from other programs, undergrads and friends. There were 5 teams (Dahlia, Iris, Lily, Marigold, Violet) that had to incorporate, in some way, the prompts that were unveiled last Friday night in our TV Studio. We were at the studio from 6 to nearly 10pm brainstorming plans/stories. IMA alum Fahim Hamid @fajita8 is sharing moments from his thesis film, Bengal Memory tomorrow in a showcase organized by the Islamic Scholarship Fund and the Center for Asian American Media (CAAM) at The Muslim House as part of the SXSW festival! IMA alum Iva Radivojević’s recent feature, When the Phone Rang is screening at The Museum of the Moving Image (MOMI) on Friday, March 14th at 8:30pm and Iva will be there in person for a Q&A. “On a Friday morning in 1992, eleven-year-old Lana (Ilincic) receives a phone call informing her about a death in the family. It’s a call that forever cleaves her life into a Before and an After, amplified by and in sync with the fracturing of her country—of Yugoslavian history and identity. Inspired by her own childhood memories, filmmaker Radivojević loops back to that fateful moment as a conjuring and incantation, and with the assistance of DP Martin DiCicco’s evocative 16mmphotography, making tantalizingly tangible what’s forever lost. “ Winner, Special Mention, Filmmakers of the Present at the 2024 Locarno Film Festival. This Friday! March 7, 6:00pm at Hunter WORKS IN PROGRESS WIP is a gathering for IMA students to come together to share their ideas and unfinished work for feedback. IMA students Shira Golden Kresch and PJ Rountree started the project and have been spearheading the series, it’s grown to include support by other IMA students like Zoha Akhter, Sabeena Singhani, Celeste Newcomb, A.J. Cincotta-Eichenfield, Lisa Draho, Azia Egbe, and more. WORKS IN PROGRESS takes place on the first friday night of the month. A great way for current students to get to know each other/‘s work and to create opportunities for feedback, discussion, and growth as a creative community—outside of class!
