Full Course Description:

Saturdays Oct 14 & November 11 10:30am-5:30pm
This seminar will explore the construction of identity and community through photography and storytelling. Focusing on Digital Diaspora Family Reunion, a socially engaged transmedia project, this seminar will encourage participants to investigate and share narratives found within their own family photographic collections (however they define family). Thomas Allen Harris will draw from the experiences and lessons gleaned from the eight years of touring with the DDFR Roadshow across the United States as well as in Canada, Brazil and Ethiopia. The course will also look at the ways the family photo album has served as a trope for my memoir-based documentaries.  Students will be encouraged to create and develop projects tailored to their own work (in art, music, performance, literature, dance, etc.) around the concept of re-imagining the family album in the digital age.
