“The Black Sun consists of a series of still and moving images made with 3D computer graphics that tread the line between the inner and external worlds, autobiography and fiction, and the ordinary and the magical. Mourning inevitable death and decay, as well as unraveling the ensuing loneliness and fear, serves as the root for this body of work.

Inspired by the concept of duality embodied in the literature of Japanese author Motojiro Kajii (1901-1932), The Black Sun contemplates the motivation of creation of itself. Lacking a vivid plot, the poetic stories of Kajii illustrate a world through the vision of a dying person reflecting on the beauty of quotidian life. The Black Sun blurs subjective memories, fictional stories and fantasies in order to process repressed emotions and to foreground mortality and alienation as a universal human experience.” More about Poyen’s work: https://poyenwang.com
